No Smoking Day 2024: History and Significance

National No Smoking Day is observed every second Wednesday of March. In 2024, will take place on March 13. The day aims to reach out to friends or family members who suffer from nicotine addiction. The Day is encouraged to help others quit. The main purpose of this day is to create awareness and make people educated of the impact of tobacco through cigarettes and various other modes.

History

  • The practice of celebrating a ‘No Smoking Day’ originally was introduced in the United Kingdom, and the first of many such days to arrive was the Ash Wednesday in 1984. The date was later fixed as the second Wednesday in March month.

No Smoking Day 2024: Theme

  • The theme 2022 of no smoking day is “Quitting smoking doesn’t have to be stressful”.

Significance

No Smoking Day is celebrated as an annual health awareness day and aims to help smokers who want to quit smoking. In 2010, the day was promoted with a campaign titled “Break free”.
