Janani Suraksha Yojana 2023 | Online Application, Eligibility, Features – Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) is a safe motherhood intervention under the National Health Mission. this scheme aims to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality by promoting institutional delivery among poor pregnant women. Hon’ble Prime Minister launched this scheme on 12 April 2005, which is under implementation in all states and Union Territories (UTs), with a special focus on Low Performing States (LPS).
Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) is a centrally sponsored scheme that merges cash assistance with delivery and post-delivery care. as well as, the scheme identified Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) as an effective link between the government and pregnant women.

Janani Suraksha Yojana 2023 – Features
- The scheme aims to focus on poor pregnant women with a special dispensation for states that have low institutional delivery rates, namely, the states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Assam, Rajasthan, Orissa, and Jammu and Kashmir.
- These states have been named Low Performing States (LPS), and the remaining states have been named High Performing States (HPS).
- To provide financial assistance to pregnant women, especially those who are below the poverty level.
- Each beneficiary must have a JSY card along with a MCH card, and a micro-birth plan should be prepared by ASHA/AWW/any other identified link worker under this Yojana.
Eligibility for Cash Assistance
The eligibility for cash assistance under the JSY is:

Janani Suraksha Yojana 2023 – Eligibility Criteria
Low Performing States (LPS)
- All pregnant women delivering in government health centres like sub-centres (specifically approved for institutional delivery by the state) and PHCs, CHCs, FRUs, or general wards of district and state hospitals.
- BPL & SC/ST women delivering in accredited private institutions.
Other states including the North-Eastern States (except Assam)
- Pregnant women from BPL households, aged 19 years and above, delivering in government health centres like sub-centres, PHCs, CHCs, FRUs or general wards of district and state hospitals or accredited private institutions.
- All SC and ST women of any age, delivering in a government health centre like subcentres, PHCs, CHCs, FRUs or general wards of district and state hospitals or accredited private hospitals.
- Cash assistance for institutional delivery would be limited to two live-births

How to Apply for Janani Suraksha Yojana 2023?
- First of all, visit the official website and click on the “Apply online” link.
- The digital registration form will be displayed on the screen and will be divided into many sections, with each section will require specific information such as the expectant mother’s name, address, age, income, etc.
- Fill in the Application form and click the “Submit” button, which generates a code for later use.
- JYS card will be issued after verification.
- The card will be sent to the candidate through mail or to ASHA workers.
