International Tiger Day 2020
Every year, International Tiger Day is considered on the day of 29th July. the main purpose of it is to create awareness about the decreasing Tiger’s population and need to make a lot of efforts in order to conserve them.
- in the year 2010, it was 1st time observed at the Saint Petersburg Tiger Summit in Russia. along with it, a declaration was announced by the nations to make the tiger’s population double by the end of 2020.
International Tiger Day 2020 aim –
- The main reason for celebrating this day is to create awareness among people about tiger conservation. the day highlights on a worldwide system that aims to take effective steps to protect the habitats of tigers and increase awareness about conservation issues of tigers.
- As per the report of the World Wildlife Federation (WWF), in the starting of the 20th century, there were 3900 tigers across the world. however, almost 90 – 95 per cent wild tiger population has been disappeared.

- At present, India has more than 2,967 tigers. India nation is accounting almost 70 per cent of the world’s tiger population. however, The number of tigers has also dropped due to some reasons they are:
- Increment in poaching
- tiger’s habitat destruction
- the conflict between man and animal
- diminishing prey base
