International Polar Bear Day is observed on February 27 every year, aimed at creating awareness of the issues facing polar bears and how we can reduce our carbon footprint. International Polar Bear Day also creates an opportunity to remind us what is at stake here, preserving the future of these magnificent mammals.

History
In 1973, the U.S., Denmark, Norway, and the former USSR signed the International Agreement on the Conservation of Polar Bears and their Habitat. The agreement aimed to regulate commercial hunting and the U.S. government classified polar bears as endangered. In 1994, The non-profit organization Polar Bears International (PBI) was established to protect the endangered polar bear. The first International Polar Bear Day took place in 2011.
