The United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution on 14 December 2022 and has declared 30 March as the International Day of Zero Waste. This year’s International Day of Zero Waste will focus on addressing waste in the fashion and textile sector, promoting circular solutions under the theme “Towards Zero Waste in Fashion and Textiles.”
The International Day of Zero Waste will encourage sustainable production and consumption habits and raise awareness of how zero-waste projects accelerate the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) celebrate the Day.

International Day of Zero Waste – Background
On 14 December 2022, The United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution and announced 30 March as the International Day of Zero Waste. This initiative was led by Türkiye, and received the support of 105 countries. The day aims to promote zero-waste initiatives worldwide.
