The Gurpurab is dedicated to honoring and remembering the great poet, philosopher, spiritual leader, and warrior. Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji founded the Khalsa Sikh warrior community and is credited with introducing the five Ks, or articles of faith worn by Khalsa Sikhs.

Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti 2024: History

Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji was the 10th Guru of the Sikh religion and introduced the five K’s of Sikhism such as kangha, kesh, kachera, kara and kirpan. Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji was born as Gobind Rai at Patna Sahib, also known as Takht Sri Patna Sahib (now in Patna), to Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Shri who was the 9th Guru of Sikhism, and Mata Gujri.

Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji was born in 1666 on Saptami Tithi, Shukla Paksha (the waxing moon phase) of the month Poh (Paush) as per the Nanakshahi calendar. Shri Guru Gobind Singh’s Jayanti falls every year in December or January according to the Gregorian calendar.
