Global Food Security Index 2021: India ranks 71st among 113 nations

As per the Global Food Security (GFS) Index 2021, India has been ranked at 71st position among 113 countries with a score of 57.2 points. India is behind its neighbors Pakistan (52.6 points) and Sri Lanka (62.9 points) in terms of food affordability.

  • Ireland, Australia, the UK, Finland, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Canada, Japan, France and the US have topped with the overall GFS score in the range of 77.8 and 80 points on the index.

Global Food Security (GFS) Index 2021: Pakisthan, China

  • Pakistan (75th position), Sri Lanka (77th Position), Nepal (79th position) and Bangladesh (84th position) are in the index.
  • Pakistan has scored 52.6 points which is better than India in the category of food affordability.
  • China is in the 34th position.
  • India has improved its score only by 2.7 points to 57.2 in 2021 from 54.5 in 2012
