Every year, The Day of Liberation and Innovation is celebrated on February 25 in the Republic of Suriname, the smallest country in South America. The day is officially called the Day of Liberation and Innovation since 2018.
History
The corrupt government was overthrown in a military coup led by Sergeant-Major Dési Bouterse and 15 other military sergeants on February 25, 1980.
