Ministry of Tourism participates in the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2023

The Ministry of Tourism is participating in the Arabian Travel Market (ATM) 2023, being ‘held from 1st to 4th May 2023 in Dubai, UAE. India’s participation in the Arabian Travel Market 2023 will help in promoting India as a preferred travel destination among the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) markets.

India, France – Joint ‘Exercise Orion’ Drills With Rafale Jets

Rafale jets of India and France jointly participated in a multinational air exercise at the French airbase of Mont-de-Marsan. Ms Chaturvedi, a Su-30MKI pilot joined the 16-day mega air combat exercise with Japan Air Self Defence Force (JASDF) at the Japanese airbase of Hyakuri from January 12 to 26.

  • India deployed 4 Rafale jets, two C-17 aircraft and two IL-78 mid-air refuellers for the three-week multinational exercise in France that started on April 17.

Santiago Pena as Paraguay’s New President

Pena Santiago has been elected as the President of Paraguay and he is the candidate of the right-wing Colorado Party and former IMF economist, defeating “Efrain Alegre” of the centre-left party. 44 years old Pena Santiago won the election with 43% of the vote and Will Assume office on 15 August 2023.

  • Santiago Peña Palacios is a Paraguayan politician and economist who is the president-elect of Paraguay.
  • He is a former member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Paraguay, and former Minister of Finance of Paraguay.
  • Peña was a member of the Authentic Radical Liberal Party between 1996 and 2016 when he joined the Colorado Party.

Karnataka most innovative state in manufacturing followed by Telangana

The Department of Science and Technology and the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO) conducted a survey on the level of innovation in manufacturing in India. As per the survey, Karnataka is the most innovative in its manufacturing sector and has the highest number of companies in manufacturing. followed by Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, and Haryana as high-innovation states. 

  • The National Manufacturing Innovation Survey (NMIS) 2021-22 showed that innovation in manufacturing is the lowest in the Northeastern states (excluding Assam), followed by Bihar.

India and Israel signed a MoU on Industrial Research and Development Cooperation

India signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Israel on Industrial Research and Development Cooperation with a focus on several key technology areas, such as Aerospace, Electronics Instrumentation, Civil, Infrastructure & Engineering, Ecology, Environment, Earth & Ocean Sciences and Water, Mining, Minerals, Metals & Materials, Chemicals and Petrochemicals, Energy (Conventional & Non-Conventional) and Energy Devices, Agri, Nutrition & Biotech and Healthcare.

FASTag daily toll collection crosses 193 crore-mark

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) showed that the daily toll collection via the FASTag system achieved an all-time high of Rs 193.15 crore on April 29, with 1.16 crore transactions recorded in a single day. FASTag facilitated seamless and secure contactless payment for parking fees at more than 140 parking lots in more than 50 cities in India.

  • The Govt of India mandated FASTag in February 2021. The number of toll plazas under the FASTag programme has increased from 770 to 1,228, including 339 state toll plazas.
  • over 6.9 crores FASTag was issued to users and helped in reducing waiting times at NH Fee Plazas.

NTPC registers growth of 148% in coal production from captive mines

NTPC Ltd., India’s largest integrated power producer registered a growth of 148% in coal production from its captive mines in April 2023. NTPC registered 2.75 Million metric tonnes (MMT) of coal production during the month of April 2023 as compared to 1.11MMT recorded for the month of April 2022.

  • NTPC registered a coal production of 23.2 million tonnes in FY23, witnessing a 65% growth against 14.02 million tonnes a year ago from its four operational coal mines -NTPC Pakri-Barwadih (Jharkhand), NTPC Chatti Bariatu (Jharkhand), NTPC Dulanga (Odisha) and NTPC Talaipalli (Chhattisgarh).

The world’s smallest skin cancer was discovered by a team of dermatologists at the Oregon Health and Science University (OSHU). It is measuring only 0.65 millimetres or 0.025 inches. On 1 May 2023, the Guinness World Record was accorded to Dr Witkowski’s team for the world’s “Smallest Detected Skin Cancer.”

Cristiano Ronaldo Becomes World’s Highest-Paid Athlete Of 2023

Cristiano Ronaldo moved to Al-Nassr Football Club early in 2023 and shocked the football fraternity. He finalised a club even during the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Ronaldo was signed by Al-Nassr Football Club in a deal worth 200 million euros and become the highest-paid athlete in the world once again. He signed a 2.5-year deal with the Asian club.

  • As per Fobes.com, Ronaldo earned $136 million in 2023 and is the highest-paid athlete (from May 1, 2022, to May 1, 2023).
  • He has an on-field earning of $46 million and an off-field earning of $90 million.
  • Followed by, Lionel Messi, who has earned $130 million.
  • Basketball legend LeBron James is at 5th spot with an earning of $119.5 million and professional boxer Canelo Alvarez at 5th spot with $110 million.
