Air Marshal Narmadeshwar Tiwari took over as the new Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C)

Air Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari assumed charge as Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C), South Western Air Command (SWAC) at Gandhinagar on 1st May 2023. He replaced Air Marshal Vikram Singh, who superannuated on 30 April 2023. He was serving as Deputy Chief of the Air Staff at Air HQ(VB) before appointing the AOC-in-C SWAC.

  • In 1986, Air Marshal Narmdeshwar Tiwari was commissioned in the Fighter Stream. He is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy and passed out as the President’s Gold Medalist.
  • He holds an experience of over 3600 hours on various types of aircraft.
  • He is a Qualified Flying Instructor as well as an Experimental Test Pilot.
  • He joined many important missions during the Kargil conflict.
  • He also commanded a frontline fighter base in the Rajasthan sector.
  • He served as the Chief Test Pilot of ASTE, the Air Force’s premier flight testing establishment.
  • He was appointed as Project Director (Flight Test) at National Flight Test Centre in Oct 2018 and joined the development and operationalisation of Light Combat Aircraft TEJAS.
  • He was honoured with the ‘Vayu Sena Medal’ in 2008 and ‘Ati Vishisht Seva Medal’ in 2022 for his distinguished service.

Indian Navy & DRDO conduct a test trial of indigenous Air Droppable Container ‘ADC-150’ from IL-38SD aircraft

The Indian Navy and Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) conducted a successful maiden test trial of ‘ADC-150’, an indigenously designed and developed ‘Air Droppable Container’ with a 150 kg payload capacity, from an IL 38SD aircraft off the coast of Goa.

  • Air Droppable Container 150 will help in enhancing naval operational logistics capabilities to meet the requirement of engineering stores for ships (under distress), which are deployed more than 2,000 km from the coast.

Ministry of Housing &Urban Affairs signs MoU with RITES as Technical Support Agency for Swachhata

Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and RITES Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to introduce Used Water Management (UWM) as a newly funded component for towns with less than 1 lakh population. The Technical Support Unit (TSU) of RITES will help SBM-U for 3 years.

  • The areas will be made for standardization and engineering design of waste management facilities, like Material Recovery Facilities, legacy waste etc.
  • RITES will offer technical support for standards & specifications in the field of sewage and faecal sludge management and reuse, engineering design and process of wastewater treatment units.

NITI Aayog Releases Compendium on Best Practices in Social Sector 2023

NITI Aayog and United Nations Development Programme released the “Best Practices in Social Sector: A Compendium, 2023”, covering 75 case studies cutting across 14 key social sectors. 75 best practices emphasise models which are innovative, sustainable, replicable and impactful.

ASEAN- India Maritime Exercise (AIME-2023)

The ASEAN – India Maritime Exercise (AIME-2023) is being held from 02 to 08 May 2023. Indian Naval Ships INS Satpura and INS Delhi reached Singapore on May 1, 2023, along with Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet to participate in the exercise. India’s first indigenously built missile destroyer “INS Delhi” and indigenously built guided missile frigate “INS Satpura”, part of the Indian Navy’s Eastern Fleet in Visakhapatnam, are deployed to Singapore.

India’s GST Revenues Hit Record High in April At ₹1.87 lakh crore

The gross GST revenue collected in the month of April 2023 is ₹ 1,87,035 crore of which CGST is ₹38,440 crore, SGST is ₹47,412 crore, IGST is ₹89,158 crore (including ₹34,972 crores collected on import of goods) and cess is ₹12,025 crore (including ₹901 crores collected on import of goods).

Justice D.S Shivangaanam appointed as the Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court

The Department of Judiciary under the Union Ministry of Law has appointed Justice D.S Shivangaanam as the Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court. Justice Prakash Srivastava, who served as the Chief Justice before this, resigned on March 30th, 2023 and was nominated by the Supreme Court Collegium.

Murali Sreeshankar wins gold at MVA Athletics Championships

Indian long jumper Murali Sreeshankar won the gold medal with a leap of 8.29m at the MVA High Performance athletics meet 1 held in Chula Vista, USA. China’s Ma Weidong won the silver medal with a 7.99m leap, while his compatriot Huafeng Huang received the bronze with an effort of 7.61m.
