PM Modi to address 108th Indian Science Congress on Jan 3

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will address the 108th Indian Science Congress (ISC) at 10:30 AM on 3rd January 2023 through video conferencing. the theme of the 108th Indian Science Congress (ISC) is ” Science and Technology for Sustainable Development with Women Empowerment”.

  • Children’s Science Congress will be held to help stimulate scientific interest and temperament among children. Farmer’s Science Congress platform will aim to improve the bio-economy and attract youth to agriculture.
  • In 1914, The first session of Congress was held and The 108th annual session of ISC will be conducted at Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Maharashtra.

Gross GST collection in December goes up by 15% to nearly Rs 1.5 lakh crore

The gross Goods and Services Tax, GST revenue collected in December 2022 is nearly 1,50,000 crore rupees. Finance Ministry said the GST revenues are 15% higher than the GST revenues in the same month last year. The gross GST revenue collected during December 2022 is Rs 1,49,507 crore, of which CGST is Rs 26,711 crore, SGST is Rs 33,357 crore, IGST is Rs 78,434 crore (including Rs 40,263 crore collected on import of goods) and Cess is Rs 11,005 crore (including Rs 850 crore collected on import of goods).

  • May – Rs 1.41 lakh crore,
  • June – Rs 1.45 lakh crore,
  • July – Rs 1.49 lakh crore
  • August – Rs 1.44 lakh crore
  • September – Rs 1.48 lakh crore
  • October – Rs 1.52 lakh crore
  • November – Rs 1.46 lakh crore
  • December – Rs 1.49 lakh crore.

Nepal PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal inaugurates Pokhara Regional International Airport

On 1st January 2023, Prime Minister of Nepal Pushpa Kamal Dahal inaugurated the Pokhara Regional International Airport and also unveiled a plaque marking the official inauguration of the airport. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Bishnu Poudel was also present on this occasion.

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva took swear as the 39th president of Brazil following the 2022 Brazilian general election. 77-year-old Lula beat Jair Bolsonaro in October to win an unprecedented third presidential term. He served as Workers Party (PT) president from 2003 to 2010. He lifted millions of Brazilians from poverty during a commodity boom that boosted the economy.

Hockey Haryana Women’s U-18 team wins Khelo India Youth Games 2022

Hockey Haryana’s women’s team wins the Khelo India Youth Games 2022 Women’s Under 18 Qualifiers and beat Madhya Pradesh 2-0 in the final at Bhubaneswar on December 30th, 2022. Odisha got third place after beating Hockey Jharkhand 2-1 in the 3rd and 4th place encounter. Sanjna Horo scored for Jharkhand and Puja Sahoo and Sunelita Toppo scored for Odisha.

  • Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, and Jharkhand have qualified for the Khelo India Youth Games which will be held in Madhya Pradesh in 2023.

Hockey Madhya Pradesh clinches Khelo India Youth Games 2022 Men’s U-18 title

In Hockey, Madhya Pradesh beat Odisha 6-5 to clinch the Khelo India Youth Games 2022 Men’s Under-18 Qualifiers title in Bhubaneswar on December 30th, 2022. Zameer Mohammad scored a hat-trick and Ali Ahmad, Mohammad Zaid Khan, and Captain Ankit Pal scored one goal each for Madhya Pradesh.

  • Anmol Ekka, Paulus Lakra, Deepak Minz, Akash Soreng, and Anmol Ekka scored one goal each for Odisha.
  • Haryana got 3rd place in the competition with a win against Jharkhand 2-0 in the 3rd and 4th place clash.
  • Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Haryana, and Jharkhand have qualified for the Khelo India Youth Games which will be held in Madhya Pradesh in 2023.

International Year Of Millets 2023

The United Nations declared the year 2023 as the International Year of Millets (IYOM 2023) at the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) headquarters. PM Narendra Modi has also shared his vision to make IYM 2023 a ‘People’s Movement’ alongside positioning India as the ‘Global Hub for Millets’.

  • Millets are considered traditional food for more than half a billion people across Asia and Africa. In India, millets are primarily a Kharif crop, requiring less water and agricultural inputs. Millets generate livelihoods, increase farmers’ income and ensure food & nutritional security all over the world.
  • On 6th December 2022, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations conducted an opening ceremony for the International Year of Millets – 2023 in Rome, Italy.
