ISRO to conduct orbit reduction maneuver of Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft

Indian Space Research Organisation

The Indian Space Research Organisation – ISRO will perform another orbit reduction maneuver of the Chandrayaan-3 spacecraft to bring it closer to the Moon’s surface on 14th August 2023. ISRO successfully carried out the last lunar-orbit reduction maneuver on the 9th of this month.

  • ISRO has scheduled to attempt a soft landing on the moon’s surface on August 23rd, 2023. With this, India will join the list of the world to achieve this feat, following the US, Russia, and China, and will become the 4th country.

India observes partition Horrors Remembrance Day

Horrors Remembrance Day

India observed Partition Horrors Remembrance Day today in memory of the struggles and sacrifices during the partition in 1947. Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that August 14, will be remembered as ‘Vibhajan Vibhishika Smriti Diwas’ or Partition Horrors Remembrance Day in memory of those who lost their lives during Partition.

  • The day reminds us of the need to remove the poison of social divisions, and disharmony and further strengthen the spirit of oneness, social harmony, and human empowerment.

Pakistan’s President Dr Arif Alvi approved the appointment of Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) Senator Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar as Caretaker Prime Minister of the country. Before this, Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar was nominated as the caretaker Prime Minister after a consensus between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Opposition leader Raja Riaz during talks in Islamabad.

Manipur observes Patriots’ Day

On August 13th, Manipur observed Patriots’ Day, aimed at remembering those martyrs who laid down their lives during the Anglo-Manipuri War, in 1891. Chief Minister N. Biren Singh paid floral tributes to the last rites memorial sites of Yubaraj Tikendrajit and Thangal General who were hanged to death by the Britisher on August 13, 1891.

Veeyapuram Chundan (Snake Boat), rowed by the Pallathuruthy Boat Club lifted the 69th edition of the Nehru Trophy Boat Race held on Punnamada Lake in Kerala’s Alappuzha district. The club wins its 4th trophy after 2018, 2019 and 2022.

Arunachal govt allots 12 ‘stalled’ hydropower projects to three Central PSUs

Arunachal Pradesh Government allotted 12 ‘stalled’ hydropower projects to three Central Public Sector Undertakings by signing a Memorandum of Agreements (MoA). The MoAs were signed in the presence of Union Power Minister RK Singh, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu, and State’s Deputy Chief Minister cum Minister in-charge Chowna Mein of Power & Hydropower.

  • The three CPSUs are National Hydroelectric Power Corporation Limited, Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam Ltd (SJVN), and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO).
  • Of the 12 hydroelectric projects, NEEPCO has been allotted 5 projects, SJVN 5, and the hydropower giant NHPC Ltd will take up 2 projects. 

Madhya Pradesh Cabinet approves disbursement of Rs 6,000 crore to eligible farmers under Chief Minister’s Kisan Kalyan Yojana

Under Chief Minister Kisan Kalyan Yojana, Madhya Pradesh Cabinet approved the disbursement of 6,000 rupees to the eligible farmers for the financial year 2023-2024. The govt will give the benefit of the seventh pay scale to Gram Panchayat Secretaries. An additional expenditure of 178.88 crore rupees on it will be met by minor mineral heads.

  • Besides this, The council of ministers approved the construction of 53 CM Rise Schools and 19 Kanya Shiksha Parisar with a total cost of over 2,491 crore rupees.

Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari launched the ‘Ek Pune’ metro card for Pune Metro travelers. Youm-e-Azadi (Pakistan Independence Day) 2023

Independence Day (یومِ آزادی; Yāum-e-Āzādi) is observed every year on 14 August and is a national holiday in Pakistan. The day aims to commemorate when Pakistan achieved independence and was declared a sovereign state following the termination of the British Raj in August of 1947. Pakistan came into existence as a result of the Pakistan Movement, which aimed the creation of an independent Muslim state in the north-western regions of British India via partition.

  • Under the Indian Independence Act of 1947, British Raj gave independence to the Dominion of Pakistan which comprised West Pakistan (present-day Pakistan) and East Pakistan (now Bangladesh).
