Centre approves ₹10000-crore plan to modernise three major railway stations – The Union Cabinet has approved the Indian Railways’ proposal for the re-development of three major railway stations including New Delhi, Ahmedabad and Mumbai’s CSMT including a spacious roof plaza with all passenger amenities at one place like spaces for retail, cafeterias, recreational facilities. There-development of three major railway stations — New Delhi, Ahmedabad and Mumbai’s CSMT will be around ₹10,000 crores.

  • 199 railway stations are to be redeveloped and in the first phase, those stations having a footfall of 50 lakhs and above annually will be redeveloped.
  • In the second phase, the progress of the re-development work of the station with 10 lakhs and above will be started.
  • All stations will be developed on the concept of intelligent building and will be equipped with the installation of CCTV and access control.
