Every year, Carver Day is celebrated on January 5. It is one of the rare national days that commemorates an African American figure. It also honoured George Washington Carver, a noteworthy agricultural scientist, and inventor.

History
In 1939, Carver received the Roosevelt Medal for saving Southern agriculture, which later played a role in feeding the United States during the Second World War.
