BRO Completes Construction of World’s Highest Motorable Road in Ladakh At 19300 Ft

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has built the world’s highest motorable road at Umlingla Pass in Eastern Ladakh with a height of 19,300 feet. it has broken the record of Bolivia’s road near volcano Uturuncu at 18,953 ft.

  • The road is 52-km long and will connect the important towns in the Chumar sector of Eastern Ladakh through Umlingla Pass.
  • The route will connect Chisumle and Demchok from Leh and help to enhance the socio-economic condition and promote tourism in Ladakh.
  • In Nepal, The road was constructed at an altitude higher than Mount Everest Base Camps. North Base Camp in Tibet is at 16,900 ft. moreover, The road above the altitude of Siachen Glacier is at 17,700 ft.
