19th SCO Ministers of Foreign Economy and Foreign Trade Meet

On 28th October 2020, The 19th edition of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Ministers of Foreign Economy and Foreign Trade meeting was organized virtually. India hosted this meet. The Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal chaired this meeting.

• The Secretary-General of SCO Vladimir Norov and Ministers from other countries such as Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Kyrgyz Republic, China, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan joined this meet.

The meeting Focuses –

• Statement on the response to Covid-19.  It marks the need for greater assistance for access to medication and facilitation of trade.

• Statement on the Multilateral Trading System of Ministers of SCO Countries who are WTO Members.  It marks the significance of the rules-based multilateral negotiations.

• Statement on SCO Cooperation on Intellectual Property Rights (IPR).  it is associated with intellectual property cooperation and consists of exchanging information/experience on legislation and enforcement, interaction in international organisations and areas.

• Action Plan for Implementation of MOU to stimulate cooperation within the framework of SCO in the field of MSMEs.  it is associated with a number of areas of cooperation among MSMEs such as sharing information, organisation of events and support on research and capacity building.
