  • Roberto Azevedo, the Chief of the World Trade Organization(WTO) has decided to step down from his post on August 31. at present, Roberto Azevêdo has been serving as the sixth Director-General of the WTO since 2013.
  • 62-year-old Roberto Carvalho de Azevêdo is a Brazilian career diplomat and the currently at the post of Director-General of the World Trade Organization.

Career

  • In 1988, he was posted to Washington. it was his first diplomatic posting. later, he had served in the Brazilian embassy in Montevideo, Uruguay, before serving to the Permanent Mission of Brazil in Geneva, Switzerland in 1997.
  • he became Vice-Minister for Economic and Technical Affairs at the Foreign Ministry in Brasilia between 2006 and 2008.
  • After this, he was chosen as Brazil’s Ambassador in Geneva to the United Nations’ international organizations and Permanent Representative to the WTO in the year 2008.
