World Press Freedom Index 2022: India at 150th – As per the index by Paris-based Reporters Without Borders (RSF), India has been placed at the 150th position on the World Press Freedom Index 2022. the World Press Freedom Day 2022 index assesses the level of freedom available to the media in 180 countries and territories. 20th World Press Freedom Index 2022 was released by Reporters Without Borders (RSF).
- India is now termed as one of the most dangerous countries for media, with an average of 3-4 journalists being killed each year.
World Press Freedom Index 2022: Ranking
- Norway has topped the World Press Freedom Index 2022 with a score of 92.65. followed by Denmark and Sweden got the 2nd and 3rd place with global scores of 90.27 and 88.84 respectively.
- India’s ranking has dropped to the 150th position compared to the last year’s 142nd rank.
- Bhutan has been ranked 33rd place, and is the best among India’s neighbouring countries.
- India’s prominent neighbours China and Pakistan have been placed at 175th and 157th place in the index with a total score of 25.17 and 37.99.
- Sri Lanka 146th, Bangladesh 162nd and Maynmar at 176th position.
- North Korea is now the worst-ranked country in the world with a score of 13.92.
