World Lion Day 2022: History and Significance

Every year, World Lion Day is observed on August 10 across the world. the main objective of this day is to raise awareness and gather support for their declining population and conservation. Lions are listed as endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s (IUCN) Red List.

• in 2013, World Lion Day was launched to raise awareness and gather support for their declining population and conservation.
• Dereck and Beverly Joubert, co-founders of the Bit cat initiative, and National Geographic made a partnership to celebrate World Lion Day.

• In India, we can find Asiatic Lion is one of the five big cats and the other four are the Royal Bengal Tiger, Indian Leopard, Clouded leopard, and Snow Leopard are found.
• India has recorded the highest ever increase of 29 per cent in its lion population from 523 in 2015 to 674 in 2020. the census of the majestic big cats was organized by the Gujarat government in June last year.
