Every year, World Day Against Cyber Censorship is observed on March 12. The day is called the International Day for Online Freedom of Expression. Cyber censorship aims to block or limit access, communication, and access to certain information on the internet. The main objective of the day is to emphasize the importance of free expression on the internet and to protest cyber censorship. It pays attention to the ways that governments worldwide are limiting people’s ability to express themselves freely online.
History
In 1996, the U.S. government passed the Communications Decency Act. Later, the U.S. passed the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (D.M.C.A).
