US Prez Joe Biden nominates Indian American Rich Verma to top diplomatic position

The United States President, Joe Biden nominated Indian-American lawyer diplomat Rich Verma to be Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources. Rich Verma is serving as the Chief Legal Officer and Head of Global Public Policy at Mastercard.

  • Verma has also served as a former US ambassador to India from January 16, 2015, to January 20, 2017.
  • He had served as Assistant Secretary of State for Legislative Affairs during the Obama government.

Indian-American lawyer diplomat Rich Verma

  • Verma served as Vice Chairman of The Asia Group, Partner and Senior Counsellor at Steptoe & Johnson LLP, and Senior Counsellor at the Albright Stonebridge Group.
  • He is also a veteran of the United States Air Force and served on active duty as a Judge Advocate.
  • He completed B.S. at Lehigh University, a JD cum laude at American University, an LL.M. with distinction at Georgetown University Law Center, and a Ph.D. at Georgetown University.
