UN World Food Programme partners with The Akshaya Patra Foundation for PM-POSHAN Scheme

UN World Food Programme partners with The Akshaya Patra Foundation for PM-POSHAN Scheme – The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) in India has partnered with The Akshaya Patra Foundation in order to boost the effectiveness of the Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM-POSHAN) scheme. Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM-POSHAN) scheme is called Mid-Day Meal Scheme in the country.

  • During the signing, WFP India country director Bishow Parajuli and Vice Chairman of the Bengaluru-based NGO Shri Chanchalapthi Dasa were present.
  • The Scheme ensures food security for school children.
  • It aims to complement WFP’s global network of running large-scale feeding programmes.

About Pradhan Mantri Poshan Shakti Nirman (PM-POSHAN) scheme

  • The govt of India launched PM Poshan Scheme (Also known as Mid-Day Meal Scheme) on 29th September 2021 and was launched for government and government-aided schools for five years (from 2021-22 to 2025-26) with a financial outlay of Rs 1.31 trillion.
