1 January – Global Family Day

8 January – African National Congress Foundation Day

8 January – NRI (Non-Resident Indian) Day or Pravasi Bharatiya Divas

The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) is observed on 9th January each year by the Republic of India. this day is also called Non-Resident Indian Day.

9th January: NRI Day or Parvasi Bharatiya Divas

NRI or Parvasi Bharatiya Divas is celebrated on 9th January, aimed at marking the contribution of the overseas Indian community towards the development of India. It also highlights the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to Mumbai.

10th January: World Hindi Day

Vishwa Hindi Diwas is observed on January 10 every year. World Hindi Day marks the occasion when Hindi was first spoken at the UNGA in the year 1949. Hindi is the 3rd most widely spoken language in the world. Mandarin Chinese and English are 1st and 2nd most widely spoken languages in the world.

11th January: National Human Traffic Awareness Day

11th January is observed as National Human Traffic Awareness Day to spread awareness regarding the persistent issue of human trafficking.

12th January: National Youth Day

The birth of Swami Vivekananda is observed as National Youth Day. The day is also known as Swami Vivekananda Jayanti.

13th January: Lohri Festival

Lohri Festival is the 1st festival of the year and is mainly celebrated in Punjab and Haryana. It highlights the beginning of the harvest season.

14th January: Pongal

Pongal festival is celebrated for 4 days and is dedicated to Sun God. As per the Gregorian calendar, the Pongal festival will take place from 14 January to 17 January 2023.

15th January: Indian Army Day

Every year 15 January is celebrated as Indian Army Day to mark the day in 1949 field Marshal Kodandera M Cariappa assumed charge as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from General Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander-in-Chief.

21st January – Tripura, Manipura and Meghalaya Foundation Day

On 21st January, Tripura, Manipura, and Meghalaya were designated as states under the North Eastern Region Act, of 1971.

23rd January – Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti

23rd January marks the birthday of the famous freedom fighter of India Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Jayanti. Subhas Chandra Bose was born on 23rd January 1897 in Cuttack, Orissa.

His army was called the Indian National Army (INA) or Azad Hind Fauj. Subhas Chandra Bose directed an Indian national force from abroad against the Western powers during World War II.

24th January: National Girl Child Day

24th January is observed as National Girl Child Day to understand and emphasize the inequalities faced by the majority of girls in India.

25th January: National Voters Day

25th January is marked as National Voters Day, aimed at encouraging young voters to take part in the political process.

26th January: Republic Day

On 26 November 1949, the Indian Constituent Assembly assumed the Constitution as the supreme law of the land. The Constitution came into effect on 26 January 1950 with a democratic government system.

30th January- Martyrs Day or Shaheed Diwas

30th January is observed as Martyrs Day or Shaheed Diwas to remember Mahatma Gandhi and the sacrifice of three revolutionaries of India.
