President Droupadi Murmu on 6-day visit to Suriname and Serbia

President Droupadi Murmu has gone for her maiden state visit to Suriname and Serbia from 4th to 9th June 2023. Mrs Murmu has been invited as the Chief Guest at the 150th-anniversary celebrations of the arrival of Indians in Suriname, to be celebrated on the 5th of June. President will visit Serbia from the 7th to the 9th of June, at the invitation of President Aleksandar Vučić.

UAE to Host World’s Largest Conservation Conference in 2025

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) wins the bid to host the 2025 World Conservation Congress (WCC) of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). The World Conservation Congress (WCC) is the world’s largest and most important gathering of conservationists.

  • The 2025 WCC will be held in Abu Dhabi from October 10-21, 2025.
  • the most pressing environmental challenges facing our planet will be discussed during the event.

US Defence Secy Lloyd Austin arrives in New Delhi on two-day visit to India

US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin arrived in New Delhi on a two-day visit to India on 4th June 2023. He will discuss ways to further expand bilateral strategic engagement ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s trip to Washington. It will be Austin’s second visit to India, prior to this, he came to India in March 2021.

India’s first carbon neutral Village is being developed in Bhiwandi Taluka of Thane district. One lakh 75 thousand farmers are taking benefit of Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Yojana in Bhiwandi Lok Sabha Constituency. Patil said that many important projects including Thane-Bhiwandi-Kalyan Metro, Kalyan-Murbad Railway, Eight-Layer Majivada-Vadape Bypass, Shahapur-Khopoli Highway etc.

Indian American Ajay Banga assumes charge as World Bank President

Indian American Ajay Banga assumed charge as the President of the World Bank and made him the first person of colour to head either of the two global financial institutions, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

  • The Executive Directors of the World Bank appointed 63 years old Banga as the 14th President of the World Bank for a five-year term.
  • Banga becomes the first-ever Indian-American to head the World Bank. He has succeeded David Malpass, who announced his decision to step down in February.

Erdogan to be sworn in as Turkish president

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be sworn in at the Turkish Parliament on 4th June 2023 after winning a historic runoff election and will serve as President for a period of five years. Erdogan won the presidential run-off election by securing 52.18% of the vote and defeated his opponent Kemal Kilicdaroglu, who received 47.82% votes.

Noted theatre actor Amir Raza Husain passes away at 66

A noted theatre actor and director Amir Raza Husain passed away at the age of 66. He was known for his large outdoor stage productions such as “The Fifty Day War” based on the Kargil War and “The Legend of Ram”.

  • He presented over 91 productions and more than 1,100 performances.
  • The actor was known for his unforgettable stage plays including ‘The Fifty-Day War’ (2000) and ‘The Legend of Ram’.
  • Aamir Raj acted in super hit movies Baahubali’ and  ‘RRR’.

Veteran Actress Sulochana Didi passes away at 94

Veteran Actreess Sulochana Didi passes away at the age of 94 in Mumbai. She is famous for her role as a Mother in Bollywood. Sulochana Latkar is popularly known as Sulochana didi in Bollywood and Marathi film industry. Chimukala Sansar released in 1943 was her first movie.

  • Sulochana Didi worked in over 300 Hindi and Marathi Movies including Yarana, Kati Patang, Roti Kapda aur Makan, Mere Jeevan Saathi, Sarswatichandra, Johny Mera Naam, Saajan, Aayi Milan Ki Bela, Prem nagar, Nayi Roshni, Sangharsh are some of her popular Hindi movies. From lead actor, she moved to character roles.
  • She was honoured with Padmashree in 1999 and Sulochana didi was awarded with a lifetime achievement award by Filmfare in 2004.
  • She was also the recipient of the Maharashtra Bhushan, V. Shantaram Award, Best Actress by the Maharashtra Government.

Indian wrestlers Manisha wins Gold, Reetika clinches Silver and Sarita Mor bags Bronze at UWW Ranking Series event in Bishkek

Indian grapplers won three medals in the UWW Ranking Series event in Bishkek. Manisha won Gold in the 65 kg weight category, while India’s tally in the series is four medals including 1 gold, 1 silver, and 2 bronze. Manjeet won a bronze in the men’s Greco Roman 55kg category.

South Korea’s An Se Young bags her 4th Women’s Single’s Super Series title at Thailand Open

In Thailand Open Badminton, World no. 2 South Korean An Se Young defeated China’s He Bingjiao in straight games 21-10, 21-19 to win her fourth Women Single’s Super Series title on the BWF World Tour. In Men’s singles, the Thai shuttler Kunlavut Vitidsarn won the Thailand Open title for the first time in his career and has become the only men’s singles player in the badminton World Tour to have won more than one tournament this year.

World Environment Day 2023

World Environment Day (WED) is celebrated on 05 June every year around the world. it aims to create awareness and encourage people to take action for the protection of our environment. United Nations established World Environment Day in 1972 at the Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment (5–16 June 1972), that had resulted from discussions on the integration of human interactions and the environment. The 50th anniversary of World Environment Day will be hosted by Côte D’Ivoire, with the theme of “solutions to plastic pollution”.
