National Health Authority signs a MoU with IIT Delhi to strengthen India’s response to COVID-19 crisis

Recognizing the role of innovations to strengthen India’s response to the COVID-19 crisis and preparedness for emerging healthcare needs, the National Health Authority has signed an MoU with the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi.

  • Through this MoU, the National Health Authority (NHA) will play a role as a technical collaborator on the US Agency for International Development (USAID)-supported SAMRIDH Healthcare Blended Financing Facility.
  • IIT Delhi is serving as the hosting entity for SAMRIDH.
  • This initiative is implemented by a Technical Support Unit managed by IPE Global.

Four new sites of India were added to Ramsar list as “wetlands of International importance”

Four more of India’s wetlands have been selected for the list of Ramsar sites and have received the status of “Wetland of International Importance”. the total number of Ramsar sites in India has reached 46 and the surface area covered by these sites is now 1,083,322 hectares.

Kaziranga became the first national park in India with satellite phones

Assam’s Kaziranga National Park (KNP) became the first national park in India that has been equipped with satellite phones. Assam Chief Secretary Jishnu Barua handed over 10 satellite phones to the forest personnel of the Kaziranga National Park.

  • This decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma on May 27th, 2021.

Exim Bank to provide $100 million loan to Mauritius for procuring defence items

In order to procure defence items from India, The Export-Import Bank of India (Exim Bank) will provide a loan credit of USD 100 million to Mauritius.

  • Indian will export eligible goods and services to Mauritius under the agreement and Mauritius have been given Line of credit or soft loans ​at a nominal rate of interest
  • Under the agreement, Out of the total credit by Exim Bank, goods, works and services of the value of at least 75% of the contract price is to be supplied by the seller from India, and the remaining 25% of goods and services will be procured by the seller for the purpose of the eligible contract from outside India.

IIT Bombay has developed a novel method using infra-red technology in order to detect which patients are more at risk of becoming severely ill from the COVID-19 Virus. the study was conducted in collaboration with Mumbai’s Kasturba Hospital, Australia’s QIMR Berghofer Medical Research Institute, and Agilent Technologies
