Rajnath Singh inaugurates Kalpana Chawla Research Centre at Chandigarh University

On 10th January 2022, Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh Ji has inaugurated the Kalpana Chawla Centre for Research in Space Science & Technology at Chandigarh University.

  • the Kalpana Chawla Centre for Research in Space Science & Technology will help in strengthening the space sector of the country.
  • It will train students in space science, satellite development and meeting future challenges in space research.
  • It is named after India-born astronaut Kalpana Chawla, who lost her life in the 2003 Columbia shuttle disaster.

Indian Railways renames Kevadiya station as Ekta Nagar railway station

The Ministry of Railways has announced to rename Kevadiya station as Ekta Nagar railway station. Indian Railways approved the renaming of the Statue of Unity’s Kevadiya railway station. Kevadiya station is located under the Vadodara division and will be known as the ‘Ekta Nagar’ railway station.

  • The station code of Ekta Nagar railway station will be EKNR and the numerical code of the station will be 08224620.

Jan Dhan Accounts Deposits Cross ₹ 1.5 lakh Crore By December 2021

As per the data provided by the finance ministry, Deposits in Jan Dhan bank accounts have been crossed more than ₹ 1.5 lakh crore till December 2021.

  • On 31st December 2021, the total balance in over 44.23 crores Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) accounts was ₹ 1,50,939.36 crore.
  • under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) scheme, over 44.23 crore accounts have been opened.
  • As per the finance ministry, 34.9 crores were with the public sector banks, 8.05 crores with regional rural banks and the rest 1.28 crores with private sector banks.

Ex-RBI Governor Urjit Patel Appointed AIIB Vice President

Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Urjit Patel has been elected as a vice president of the Beijing-based multilateral funding institution Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) for a three-year tenure.

  • Urjit Patel will take place of Vice President D J Pandian who is holding the charge of sovereign and non-sovereign lending of the AIIB in South Asia, the Pacific Islands and South-East Asia.
  • Patel will serve as one of the five Vice Presidents of the AIIB.
