The Detroit News and Detroit Public Schools founded the Rosa Parks Scholarship Foundation in 1980 to honor its eponym Rosa L. Parks, the late iconic civil rights activist, to empower and inspire youth to reach their highest potential. The foundation offers the Rosa L. Parks Scholarship of $2,000 to high school senior students at private or public schools in Michigan.
