PM Modi inaugurates 11 new medical colleges in Tamil Nadu – Prime Minister Narendra Modi has inaugurated 11 new medical colleges in Tamil Nadu and a new campus of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT) via video conferencing on January 12, 2022

  • The Centre and Tamil Nadu Govt have spent an estimated cost of about Rs 4,000 crore (around Rs 2,145 crore allocated by Union govt).

11 new medical colleges in Tamil Nadu

  • 11 new medical colleges are located in Virudhunagar, Namakkal, The Nilgiris, Tiruppur, Thiruvallur, Nagapattinam, Dindigul, Kallakurichi, Ariyalur, Ramanathapuram and Krishnagiri.
  • The medical colleges will help in promoting affordable medical education and improving health infrastructure.

New campus of the Central Institute of Classical Tamil (CICT)

  • The new campus of the CICT Chennai aims to protect and preserve Indian heritage and will also promote classical languages.
  • The Centre has given 100% contribution of Rs 24 Crore to operate from a new 3 storey campus.
  • CICT will have a spacious library, an e-library, seminar halls and a multimedia hall.
