- HPS Ahluwalia was a retired army officer, a trained mountaineer, author and social worker.
- He paid contributions in various fields such as adventure, sports, environment, disability and social work.
- HPS Ahluwalia has authored more than books including his autobiography Higher Than Everest.
- Major Ahluwalia has served as president of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation and the Delhi Mountaineering Association.
- Major HPS Ahluwalia was awarded the country’s most prestigious awards such as Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri and the Arjuna Award.
- He was honoured with the Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award.
