OPEC appoints Kuwait’s Haitham Al Ghais as new secretary-general – Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) has decided to elect Kuwaiti oil executive Haitham Al Ghais as its new secretary-general.

  • Haitham Al Ghais will serve as its new secretary-general for a period of three years.
  • He will replace Nigeria’s Mohammad Sanusi Barkindo, who is serving the post since August 01, 2016.
  • Opec+ has planned to increase production by 400,000 barrels per day in February.
