Odisha govt begins GARIMA scheme

The Odisha’s Chief Minister Shri Naveen Patnaik Ji has begun a scheme called GARIMA. the main purpose of it is to assure the economic safety and social dignity of core sanitation workers. due to this, The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development Department has made an agreement with the Urban Management Centre in order to offer the technical support to implement the scheme.

About GARIMA Scheme –

  • Almost 20,000 core sanitation workers and families will take the advantages of this scheme.
  • The state Housing and Urban Development dept is going to introduce the GARIMA Scheme in 114 Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).
  • In the beginning, the State will grant fund of Rs 50 crore for the scheme for implementing the scheme.
  • The sanitation workers will be given 6 hours per day as working hours.
  • Along with it, they will also be given health insurance and will receive regular health check-ups, housing, educational support, mobility support and mobile support.
