National Technology Day 2023: Theme, history, significance – National Technology Day is observed on 11th May every year in India to mark the anniversary of the 1998 Pokhran nuclear tests and India’s technological advancements in space. it also aims to encourage students to adopt science as a career option.

• In the year 1998, India tested successfully an Operation Shakti missile at the Indian Army’s Pokhran Test Range in Rajasthan.
• the aerospace engineer and President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam led Operation Shakti missile.
• This day was established by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the former prime minister of India to celebrate the Pokhran nuclear test.

National Technology Day 2023: History

• India successfully conducted its first nuclear tests under Pokhran-II, codenamed Operation Shakti on May 11, 1998.
• The test made India international recognition as a nuclear power and highlighted the country’s scientific and technological capabilities.
