History of National Supreme Sacrifice Day
In 2004, the day was only officially named to mark life-saving deeds and plant and animal rescues. Nikolay Vavilov hungered during a 900-day raid siege of Leningrad in Russia. Nikolay was a scientist from the Institute of Plant Industry. He refused to consume or harm endangered plants.
