‘National Governance Professionals Day’ is celebrated annually on the last Wednesday of March. In 2025, it takes place on March 27 in collaboration with the Institute of Governance. The initiative was started by Governance Professionals of Canada and aims to act as an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the role of governance professionals across all organizations in Canada. Governance Professionals of Canada (GPC) launched the inaugural National Governance Professionals Day.
History
GPC conducts its annual Excellence in Governance Awards Showcase to celebrate the winners and shortlisted organizations in its 2022 Awards ceremony. The initiative encourages all organizations to join in recognizing the important work that their governance professionals.

Timeline
1994 – The Canadian Society of Corporate Secretaries (CSCS) was established following the published Dey Report by the TSX: “Where Are the Directors?”
2003 – Canada introduced Bill-198 to strengthen corporate governance and create confidence in the Canadian market.
2013 – The first GPC Excellence in Governance Awards (EGAs) were conducted at GPC’s annual conference. EGAs aimed to recognize the important contribution of the organizations, their boards, and governance professionals in Canada.
2023 – Governance Professionals of Canada observed the inaugural National Governance Professionals Day.
