The Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC) is a national organization that was established to connect theater practitioners with the necessary training and resources. In 2015, The foundation created the Leighton M. Ballew Directing Award to compensate for the cost of studying for students in graduate directing programs. The award offers one student a $2,500 scholarship to study at an accredited school in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, or West Virginia.
