ISRO Chief K Sivan is named for 2020 Von Karman Award

  • The International Academy of Astronautics(IAA) has named Chief of Indian Space Research Organisation(ISRO) Shri Kailasavadivoo Sivan for 2020 Von Karman Award. The Von Karman Award is known as highest distinction of the IAA. Dr. K. Sivan is going to receive award in March 2021 at Paris France.

What is Von Karman Award ?

  • In 1982, The premier award of IAA was set up in order to remember renowned aerospace scientist Dr. Theodore Von Karman and Dr. Theodore Von Karman was founder and the first President of IAA.

Who is Dr.K.Sivan:

  • in the year 1982, K.Sivan became the part of ISRO in Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) project.
  • He has served as chief architect of SITARA – 6D trajectory simulation software.
  • in January 2018, he was appointed as Chairman of ISRO. he took place of Kiran Kumar.
  • He got the Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) award from Sathyabama University, Chennai in the year 2014.
