India assumes UNSC presidency for August 2021: maritime, counter-terrorism in focus

On 1st August 2021, India has taken over the presidency of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) for the month of August 2021 from France. As a non-permanent member of the UNSC, it is the first presidency for India during its 2021-22 tenure.

  • From 2nd August 2021, The first working day of India’s Presidency will be and Tirumurti will conduct a hybrid press briefing in the UN headquarters on the Council’s programme of work for the month.

“India has just assumed the presidency of The UN Security Council on 1st August. India and France enjoy historical and close relations. I thank France for all the support which they’ve given us during our stint in the Security Council,”
