Every year, Francophonie Day is observed on March 20 by the International Organization of La Francophonie to mark the French language and Francophone culture. History
The International Day of Francophonie was established in 1988 to mark the signing of the Niamey Convention in Niger on March 20, 1970. The U.N. Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) created the U.N. French Language Day to create awareness about the value of French and other languages.
