Union Home Minister Amit Shah launches the “Prahari app” of the Border Security Force

On 29th December 2022, The Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah launched the Mobile App ‘Prahari’ of the Border Security Force (BSF) in New Delhi. Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, and Director General of BSF Pankaj Kumar Singh were also present on the occasion.

What is the Prahari app?

  • BSF ‘Prahari’ app is a great example of Proactive Governance.
  • BSF jawans can get personal information and information related to accommodation, Ayushmann-CAPF, and leaves on their mobiles.
  • The ‘Prahari app will contain GPF, Bio Data, or grievance redressal on the “Centralized Public Grievance Redress and Monitoring System” (CP-GRAMS) or information on various welfare schemes.
  • Jawans will also receive all this information through the app and this app will also connect Jawans with the portal of the Ministry of Home Affairs.”

BSF Drone/UAV and Cyber Forensic Lab –

  • A “BSF Drone/UAV and Cyber Forensic Lab” has been established in Noida, Uttar Pradesh through which captured drones of Pakistan have been thoroughly mapped for their linkages and locations across the border.
  • The drones help in bringing narcotics and arms and ammunition to spread terrorism in India.

Border Security Force (BSF) –

  • The Border Security Force was founded on 1 December 1965 after the India-Pakistan war of 1965.
  • It is a border force that is deployed along the International border with Bangladesh and Pakistan.
  • BSF is also called India’s first line of defense’.

NHA released the beta version of the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS)

National Health Authority (NHA) released a beta version of the lightweight, robust, and Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission-compliant Hospital Management Information System (HMIS). the beta version provides a digital platform for healthcare providers, particularly focusing on private clinics and small health facilities.

  • It will generate and fetch Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts for patients.
  • It will also manage doctors’ calendars, appointments, and patient details in a single window.
  • It will also aim to facilitate e-prescription services and view previous health records and prescriptions for registered patients and take video consultations.
  • It will also help in digitizing small clinics and improving the discoverability of healthcare providers in India.

India’s first underwater tunnel under the Hooghly River in West Bengal

India’s first underwater tunnel is being constructed under the Hooghly River in West Bengal as part of the East-West Metro Corridor. the cost of the project will be around Rs 120 crores. India’s first underwater tunnel will be built in 520-meter long. The tunnel is the Indian version of Eurostar’s London-Paris corridor and is being built 13 meters below the riverbed and 33 meters below ground level.

  • The tunnel will contain an internal diameter of 5.55 meters and an external diameter of 6.1 meters.
  • The spacing between the up and down tunnels is 16.1 meters center-to-center.


India & Cyprus sign three crucial agreements on defence, migration and solar alliance

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Foreign Minister of Cyprus Ioannis Kasoulides signed three key agreements at a joint press conference held in Cyprus’s Nicosia. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on defence and military cooperation between our two countries.

  • The external affairs minister also released Commemorative Stamps on the occasion of 75 years of India’s Independence and marking 60 years of India’s diplomatic relations with Cyprus.


Nitin Gadkari inaugurates Phase I of New Zuari Bridge in Goa

On 29th December 2022, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated phase 1 of the New Zuari Bridge in Goa, aimed at easing the traffic woes of the state. the New Zuari Bridge is located on the Zuari river at Cortalim village on Margao-Panaji National Highway. Minister inaugurated the 4 Lane Right Hand Side Corridor of the 8 Lane Stayed Cable bridge under the 1st Phase. the outlay of the project is Rs.2530 Crore for the new bridge and the approaches from Bambolim to Verna and has a total project length of 13.20 KM.

  • Goa-Mumbai Highway will also be built in the next 7 to 8 months.

Tamil Nadu launches fixing ISRO developed transponders on boats

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin distributed the devices to the fishing vessels’ owners in order to help fishermen engaged in deep sea fishing. Tamil Nadu launched the Blue Revolution Scheme at an estimated cost of Rs 18.01 crore, and 10 owners received the devices under this scheme. The Blue Revolution Scheme envisages fixing transponders on 4,997 mechanized boats in the state.

  • ISRO-developed upgraded transponders will help fishermen send and receive information.
  • It will also enable them to find the location of a boat in the deep sea, and its route and aid them to take appropriate measures for rescue efforts.

Tamil Nadu to spend over ₹50 crores on modernization of forest force

The State government provide an administrative sanction for ₹52.83 crores for the modernization of the Tamil Nadu Forest Force for the years 2022-25. the modernization will be helpful for scientific forest management, training, strengthening delivery infrastructure, and improving the capability and mobility of field staff to handle human-wildlife conflict.

  • The fixed-wing drone will be purchased at a cost of ₹6.80 crores.
  • A mobile ground control station will be established at a cost of ₹1.50 crore.
  • 5 multi-purpose and all-terrain vehicles for the rescue of wild animals and firefighting activities will be bought at a cost of ₹5.25 crore.
  • The basic wildlife rescue kits such as trap cages, trap nets, and tranquilizing kits with drugs for each vehicle would be bought at a cost of ₹1.05 crore.
  • The modern forest fire control equipment and contemporary fire rescue kits will be brought at a cost of ₹2.70 crores.

Amit Shah inaugurated Mega Dairy at Mandya, Karnataka

On 30th December 2022, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Shri Amit Shah inaugurated Mega Dairy at Mandya in Karnataka. the Mega Dairy has been built at a cost of Rs 260 crore and will process 10 lakh liters of milk per day and will have the capacity to increase it up to 14 lakh liters per day. 15,210 village-level cooperative dairies are in Karnataka state and about 26.22 lakh farmers deliver their milk daily through 16 district-level dairies and Rs 28 crore is transferred into the accounts of 26 lakh farmers every day.

  • The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) and the Ministry of Cooperation will set up the primary dairy in every panchayat of the country in the following three years.

Tamil Nadu govt to set up a botanical garden in Chengalpattu at Rs 300 crore

The Tamil Nadu Govt will establish a botanical garden at Kadambur Village in the state’s Chengalpattu district at a cost of Rs 300 crore. The project will be built in partnership with the Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew, London across 138 hectares.


MOIL appoints Ajit Kumar Saxena as chairman, MD

Ajit Kumar Saxena has been elected as the chairman-cum-managing director of MOIL and will assume the charge of the post till the date of his superannuation i.e. 31 December 2025, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

  • Saxena completed a B. Tech degree from the Institute of Technology, Banaras Hindu University in Metallurgy, and also holds MBA.
  • Saxena is having an experience of 36 years in the steel sector with wide experience in technical, operational, and project management areas.
  • He also served as director (Operations) at RINL-Vishakhapatnam Steel Plant.
  • He began his career as a management trainee (Technical) at Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) in 1986.
  • He worked in SAIL as chief general manager, of Mills, IISCO, Burnpur, and general manager, of Bhilai Steel Plant.


Rashid Khan appointed Afghanistan T20I captain

Rashid Khan has been appointed as Afghanistan’s new T20I captain by the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB). Rashid Khan will replace Mohammad Nabi, who stepped down as captain in November, after Afghanistan’s elimination from the T20 World Cup.

  • Rashid Khan has represented Afghanistan in 74 T20I matches and took 122 wickets.
  • He is also the 3rd leading wicket-taker in the format behind Tim Southee (134) and Shakib Al Hassan (128).

Football legend Pele passes away at 82

Brazilian football legend Edson Arantes do Nascimento, famously called Pelé passed away due to cancer at the age of 82. the funeral of football legend Pele will be held on January 2 and 3 at the stadium where Brazilian soccer legend Pele played some of his best matches. During his period Brazil won the World Cup 3 times (1958, 1962, 1970).

  • Pele hit 1,281 goals in 1,366 games.
  • He was born on Oct. 23, 1940, in the small Minas Gerais town of Tres Corações.
