Air India the most punctual airline! Vistara, IndiGo ranks

According to data by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, passengers carried by domestic airlines during January-October 2022 were 9.88 crores as against 6.20 crores in the previous year. Tata-owned Air India has been ranked as the most punctual airline in October 2022, while, Go First ranks at the bottom of the list of airlines.

  • The on-time performance of Air India flights was 90.8% and followed by Vistara and AirAsia recording on-time performance of 89.1% during October.
  • moreover, Indigo Airlines recorded an on-time performance of 87.5%.
  • Spicejet had an on-time performance of 68.9%.
  • Go First was at the bottom with an on-time performance of 60.7%.
  • Indigo carried 64.71 lakh air passengers and Vistara carried 10.49 lakh air passengers during the month.
  • around 1.14 crores of passengers were carried by domestic airlines during October in the country.

JNPA inaugurates Continuous Marine Water Quality Monitoring Station

India’s best-performing Port Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) developed a Continuous Marine Water Quality Monitoring Station (CMWQMS) & launched an Electric Environmental Monitoring Vehicle (EV) on November 21, 2022, in association with the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Madras.

  • The Continuous water quality system and electric monitoring vehicle will help in managing the marine water and air quality in the port area.
  • JNPA will also reduce the greenhouse gas footprint of vehicles, in addition to checking compliance with Environmental Quality around the port estate through water quality stations data, such as temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, ammonia, conductivity, nitrate, salinity, turbidity, and TDS of marine water.
  • As well as, Jawaharlal Nehru Port installed Solar Panels of around 4.10 MWp. 38% of avg to lower energy consumption & decrease carbon footprint.

UNICEF & India join hands to promote films on child rights at IFFI in Goa

UNICEF and National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) partnered to promote films with a child rights perspective at the 53rd International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. Children’s and adolescents’ issues and rights will be highlighted through a special section for films at IFFI for the first time.

  • NFDC and UNICEF jointly screened Six films during the 9-day festival, aimed at depicting the real issues faced by children and raising awareness of the rights of children.
  • Six films include Nagesh Kukunoor directed ‘Dhanak’ and ‘Nani Tere Morni’ by Akashaditya Lama which is a true story about a child who overcame fear and saved her grandmother from drowning.
  • Other films are ‘Sumi’, directed by Amol Gole,  ‘Two Friends’ (original title Dostojee) Bengali film directed by Prasun Chatterjee, Udd Jaa Nanhe Dil’, a Hindi film directed by Swaroopraj Medara.

400th birth anniversary of Assam’s legendary war hero Lachit Barphukan

400th birth anniversary celebrations of Ahom commander Lachit Barphukan were started in New Delhi. the celebrations will be held for three days. on this occasion, Union Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman inaugurated an exhibition to highlight the life and achievement of the Ahom dynasty and Lachit Barphukan among others.

Who was Lachit Borphukan?

  • Lachit Barphukan was born on 24 November 1622 and was a commander and Borphukan, in the Ahom kingdom.
  • he was known for his leadership in the 1671 Battle of Saraighat which thwarted a drawn-out attempt by Mughal forces under the command of Ramsingh I to take over the Ahom kingdom.
  • he died on 25 April 1672 due to illness.
  • Lachit Borphukan was the youngest son of Momai Tamuli Borbarua.

  • Every year, November 24 is celebrated as Lachit Divas (Lachit Day) in Assam. the day aims to commemorate the heroism of Lachit Borphukan and the victory of the Assamese army at the Battle of Saraighat.

  • Lachit Borphukan’s Maidam was built in memory of Lachit Borphukan at Jorhat, Assam.
  • Lachit Borphukan’s Maidam is 8 km far from the famous Hoollongapar Gibbon Sanctuary.
  • Last remains of Borphukan were laid under this tomb (Maidam) constructed by Swargadeo Udayaditya Singha in 1672.

IIT Guwahati director T G Sitharam appointed as new AICTE chairman

IIT Guwahati Director T G Sitharam has been elected as chairman of the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and will serve as the Council head for a period of three years or before he turns 65 years old.

  • Sitharam will replace UGC chairman Jagadesh Kumar, who held interim charge of the AICTE chairman post after Anil Sahasrabuddhe was released from his duties on September 1, 2021, upon turning 65 years old.
  • He also served as Director of IIT Guwahati and a professor in the department of civil engineering at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.
  • He was a chair professor in the area of Energy and Mechanical Sciences at IISc.

Dr. Meenakumari as Director General of Siddha Medical Research Group

Dr. Meenakumari has been appointed as the new Director General of the National Psychiatric Research Group at Tambaram Sanatorium. She replaces K Kanakavalli has been transferred to the Tamil Nadu Siddha Medical Council on her request.

  • Before this, Dr. Meenakumari served as Director of the National Institute of Psychiatry and holds additional responsibility as Director General.
  • this is the first time that Dr. Meenakumari will hold the post of the 2 institutions at the same time.

Binod Kumar as the Executive Director of Punjab National Bank

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of Binod Kumar as the Executive Director of Punjab National Bank with effect for a period of three years. Binod Kumar holds a Graduation in science from Ranchi University and holds Post Graduate Diploma in Banking & Finance from NIBM, a Financial Risk Manager (FRM) from GARP (USA), and a Certified Associate Member of the Indian Institute of Bankers (CAIIB).

  • He also was appointed as BO: DIFC as Chief Executive Officer and served as the Corporate Credit Division, Head Office of Punjab National Bank as Chief General Manager.
  • Binod Kumar also served as the Nominee Director on the Board of PNB Housing Finance Limited and ISARC (India SME Asset Reconstruction Company Limited).
  • he has an experience of more than 28 years, ranging from Branch and Administrative Office to Risk Management, Credit, and so on.

Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards for the year 2021

The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India announced the National Adventure Award named “Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award” (TNNAA) for the year 2021. Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards for the year 2021 award is presented in four categories – Land Adventure, Water Adventure, Air Adventure, and Life Time Achievement.

  • The President of India will present the awards at the Rashtrapati Bhawan on 30th November 2022.
  • Winners will be given statuettes, certificates, and award money of Rs. 15 lakh each.
