Aadhaar-PAN Linking: Who Is Exempted; Important Details & Rules – Citizens can link a Permanent Account Number (PAN) with an Aadhaar card till the last date i.e. 31 March 2023. As per the Income Tax Department, failure to complete this process will be the unlinked PAN inoperative. Citizens who have not linked their PAN card with their Aadhaar must complete the process by 31 March 2023.

The Aadhaar-PAN linking was free till 31 March 2022. After that, from 1 April 2022, a fee of Rs 500 was imposed and now, it is increased to Rs 1000.

Aadhaar-PAN Linking: When you don’t complete this process

  • Can’t file an I-T return using the inoperative PAN.
  • Your pending returns will not be processed.
  • Your pending proceedings will not be completed.
  • A higher rate of tax will be charged.
